Following our long-term cooperation and the agreement about joint development of commercial dc-SQUID-based systems, the international team of CRYOTON Co. Ltd., SOFTMAG Group and SUPRACON AG presents a new line of a dc-SQUID-based measuring modules for animal studies. Its name is the “Mini-SQUID” family.

Recently we have successfully tested the single channel version of the Mini-SQUID – system for MCG-study of rats in an unshielded environment.  Principal parameters of its measuring SQUID-based channel, such as the configuration of the flux transformer, and the grid density of the magnetic field map, were calculated according to requirements of the task and then realized in the experiment.

Magnetophysiological investigations of rats were carried out in the Franz-Volhard-Klinik Charite Campus Buch and the Max-Delbrück Center of Molecular Medicine in Berlin, Germany, by Dr. Alexander Schirdewan and Dr. Robert Fischer and coworkers. In parallel, similar measurements of the same animals were made with the 7-channel system MCG-6073-G for human investigations. Experimental testing of both systems was completed by measurements of the magnetic field distribution of two magnetic dipoles located at the same plane. The area of mapping was about 6×6 cm and the Mini-SQUID – system demonstrated better space resolution in that experiment.

Pictures present the results of measurements of the rat ¹ 91 and two magnetic dipoles made with different MCG-systems. The recording time was the 30 seconds for each of 6´6 points of the mapping grid. The sensitivity level was good enough to get the high quality magnetic field map and signal source localization in an unshielded environment..

We included in the “Mini-SQUID” family the systems with 9, 16, 25 and 36 (“Mini-SQUID –9, -16, -25, -36” correspondingly ) measuring  channels. All of them contain similar SQUID-based measuring channels and XYZ reference magnetometer mounted on the single measuring probe. Measuring probes can be located in different types of fiberglass cryostats with the initial resource of 2 to 9 days. To get the complete magnetic map the “Mini-SQUID–9,-16” systems makes four measurements in four points, the “Mini-SQUID–25” system makes two measurements in two points, and “Mini-SQUID-36” – makes only one measurement.

These systems can be installed at conventional laboratory conditions and do not require an additional shielding. The personal needs only a short course of practical training. A good service for the systems will be provided.

Here we present the improved version of the 10-channel MCG-system MCG-6073-GM for routine MCG-measurements in an unshielded environment (see Lab-systems). It was installed in the Bakoulev Research Center of Cardiosurgery (Moscow) for routine investigations of patients.

 

The 10-channel MCG-system MCG-6073-GM, operating at the non-shielded conditions of a real hispital.

This MCG-system is based on highly balanced second order gradiometers and 12-liter non-magnetic fiberglass cryostat. The system demonstrates a stable operation in an unshielded environment at clinical conditions. The upgraded software contains new program-modules for MCG-data acquisition and analysis.

Last year we added a few new models into the family of our fiberglass non-magnetic cryostats.  Such models as the LH-12.0-NTE and LH-14.5-NTE completed the line of cryostats for biomagnetic applications. The models LH-4,1-BN and LH-2,6-BN are intended for geophysical applications.

The new models of CRYOTON's cryostats: LN-2,0-TI, LH-11,5-NTE, LH-4,1-BN and LH-2,6-BN.

2. New actions.

All MCG-systems include following parts:

  • new 11-14-liter non-magnetic fiberglass cryostats LH -11,0 - NTE  -  LH -14,5 - NTE with the refilling time more then one week;

  • system electronics based on E115 series of a dc-SQUID FLL-units with necessary numbers of measuring and reference channels;
  • electronic noise suppression system (ENSS)
  • data acquisition systems based on a 24-bit ADC-convertors.
  • original software for user-friendly system control, MCG-data acquisition and analysis.
  • each system is completed with an adjustable cryostat holder, non-magnetic patient's bed, helium transfer tubes and can be used for clinical or research applications.
